I am going to talk about what The URANTIA Book has to say about spiritual leaders, and I would first of all like to honor certain leaders that this planet, Urantia, has had for the last one million years. First of all are those native Urantian human leaders who in some way brought revelatory truth to their people when the cultural and spiritual evolution of the race was at a dangerous point of complete deterioration. I am not going to go into great detail about these people. I am just going to mention them briefly, and I will give you the paper or the page that you can find this in your URANTIA Books. You can study this on your own when you have time to read these wonderful stories about these people and what they contributed to the history of our planet.

Also I would like to remind you that The URANTIA Book is not authored by humans, but by a group of celestial spirit beings, and their perspective is much higher than any human, so these heroes are not the heroes that you watch on the films and television produced by people of little spiritual understanding. These heroes are not found, unfortunately, in any books out there; they are only found in the epochal revelation, The URANTIA Book at this point. When we do truly move into the Divine New Order, these people that I’m talking about will become those heroes, and the films and stories will be written about them, and songs and art will be inspired by them too.

One million years ago, we had Andon and Fonta who were the first human beings on Urantia, a male and a female, and it took them much courage to hear the leadings of God within them that they had to leave the security of their family and friends in the village that they lived in, but they did do that. Because of their choice to follow God’s will in their life, they started a wonderful race called the Andonites, and you can read about Andon and Fonta in Paper 63.

Then there was an amazing, outstanding spiritual leader for each of the six colored races, the Sangik races, that developed about 500,000 years ago. These individuals are all now on the Council of Twenty-four elders in Jerusem, the capital of our system of Satania, and you can read about these leaders on pages 722 through 726.

We honor Onamonalonton of the red race, who lived 65,000 years ago. We honor Porshunta of the orange men who was here 300,000 years ago; Singlangton of the yellow race, 100,000 years ago; Fantad of the green people, 350,000 years ago; Orlandof of the blue race, 199,500 years ago; Orvonon of the indigo tribes. These six people carried the revelation of the one Universal Father, the Creator. It took them great courage to do this, and they are honored by the Celestial Revelatory Commission who have shared these people’s history with us.

Then there are those mortal leaders of extraterrestrial genetics who served on Urantia, some as natives and some who came from other universes. We also have the leaders who are non-mortals who came specifically to bring an epochal revelation, and those mortals who helped to continue in those revelations.

We honor Van the Steadfast, the supermortal who stood up to Caligastia and Lucifer 200,000 years ago. We honor his assistant, Amadon of Urantia, a descendant of Andon and Fonta, and you can read about these two wonderful people in Paper 67.

We honor Ellanora of Panoptia, not of Urantia, who was a native of that planet, and like Amadon she stood steadfast in her loyalty to Christ Michael of Nebadon. By herself this great leader was able to spiritually save her entire race of that planet.

Adam and Eve, who, even though they defaulted, bravely lived on serving the people of this planet, and you can read about them in Papers 74 through 76. You can read about Adamson, the first-born of Adam and Eve of this planet, and Ratta, one of the wonderful Nodites, on pages 861 through 862. The Cosmic Family, Volume I tells us that Urantians as well as starseed who are walking on Urantia, carry the genetics of Van, of Amadon, of Adam and Eve, and of Adamson and Ratta.

We honor Machiventa Melchizedek who came about 4,000 years ago, and you can read about him in Paper 93. We serve Machiventa Melchizedek today, for he is here again on this planet in spirit form, bringing in the divine new administration. We honor all of those who have carried on the Melchizedek teachings to all parts of Urantia, some being material complements to him at some level. On page 1025 in the sixth paragraph of The URANTIA Book, it says, “This same Melchizedek continued to collaborate throughout the nineteen succeeding centuries with the many prophets and seers, thus endeavoring to keep alive the truths of Salem until the fullness of the time for Michael’s appearance on Earth.”

The URANTIA Book honors Abraham who lived and worked with Machiventa and was his greatest student, and some of those who served with Machiventa and some of those that he possibly worked through are the many missionaries who studied under him at Salem and then traveled across the planet, bringing that revelation to people.

We honor Amenemope, Tiye, and Akhenaten of Egypt. Two of these are sitting in this room today, repersonalized again. We honor Moses, Samuel, Elijah, Elisha, Amos, Hosea, the first and second Isaiahs, and Jeremiah, all of the Hebrew nations. We honor Gautama, Confucius, Lao-tse, Asoka and Zoroaster of the Orient and Arab lands and India. All of these who I have named in some manner carried the revelation of Machiventa to the people of their day. You can read about these people in Papers 94 through 97.

We honor John the Baptist who was the forerunner of the greatest spiritual leader that this planet has ever known, Joshua ben Joseph, Jesus of Nazareth. You can read about Him in Part IV of The URANTIA Book.

Then of course there are those who loved Jesus and carried His teachings throughout the centuries, His true teachings, up until today. Naturally, these would be His apostles and disciples, many of whom are sitting in this room today.

We honor Mohammed, the prophet who brought Islam to the world. We honor Nanak who in the fifteenth century after Christ synthesized the combined teachings of Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism into Sikhism, one of the most advanced religions of Asia.

These great people were used by God to continue bringing truth and revelation to the people of this planet. Many times they were ridiculed. Many times they were not even acknowledged until later on, but the celestial spirit beings who brought through The URANTIA Book honor them, and we in this room honor them.

Unfortunately many of their teachings that turned into institutionalized religions have been distorted and twisted by people who did not understand at the highest level what those teachings were about. We feel the sadness of the travesty of what has happened when business and profit is brought in to these religions; we feel sadness because there are many people walking this planet today who claim to be religious leaders and are not.

So what does make a true spiritual leader? What are those traits and those virtues? What is it about the people that we just mentioned and thought about and honored? What is it that made them who they were, so that they live on in the memories of celestial spirit beings?

We know that courage is always necessary, but again pulling from The URANTIA Book, the first one that we want to look at is Van. By looking at Van we can get some idea of those traits that are necessary in order to become not only a spiritual leader in the history of our planet, but a true leader today of the fourth dimension, the Divine New Order. On page 756:07 The URANTIA Book refers to Van. “The spiritual insight and moral steadfastness which enabled Van to maintain such an unshakable attitude of loyalty to the universe government was the product of clear thinking, wise reasoning, logical judgment, sincere motivation, unselfish purpose, intelligent loyalty, experiential memory, disciplined character, and the unquestioning dedication of his personality to the doing of the will of the Father in Paradise.”

In order to be spiritual leaders like Van, we must have spiritual insight and moral steadfastness; and in order to have this spiritual insight and this moral steadfastness, we have to have clear thinking, wise reasoning, and logical judgment. This thinking, reasoning, and judgment, if it truly is going to be clear, wise, and logical, must be tapped into the divine mind of our Universe Mother Spirit and our Paradise Mother. Otherwise that thinking and that judgment will be faulty, and there won’t really be much wisdom in our reasoning.

Sincere motivation comes from the heart. The URANTIA Book values sincerity very much. In fact, it says that in our ascension process when we finally make it to the portals of Havona, the central universe of perfection, we still have not reached perfection, the perfection of Paradise. What we have reached though is the perfection of purpose, for we want to be as the Universal Father, and we want to be in His will, and that sincerity is what motivated us throughout our ascension process to Havona, and it starts here right now. We must remember that all of us here are being called to become leaders in this Divine Administration that is going to be implemented, that we are being called to be the apostles of the fourth dimension of the Divine New Order, and that our purpose, like Van’s, must be unselfish.

Every day we should ask, “What is motivating me? What is the purpose of this that I am doing right now? Is it for my own personal agenda? Or is it for God’s agenda?” We must have that intelligent loyalty to the work here and to Machiventa Melchizedek, the Planetary Prince of this Divine Administration, and it has to be intelligent loyalty, not blind loyalty. He doesn’t ask us to be unthinking. He wants us to be educated about cosmic absolutes, about the truth and about those things of eternal value. What is of eternal value is what reality is made of.

Van also was able to remain steadfast and loyal because of his experiential memory. He was able to pull from his memory the experiences that he had in his life, and as a supermortal from another universe he had many experiences. Today we need to pull from our memories and our experiences, whether this is the first life that we have lived, or whether this may be the one-hundredth or the five-hundredth or the second life that we have lived. We need to begin to pull from our memories. We need to begin to remember those mistakes we made and how we can learn from them, and if you are a fourth-order starseed who participated in some way in the Lucifer rebellion, you need to begin to recognize those Luciferic tendencies within you. You need to begin to name your errors (dio). We need to begin to remember what we have done in that dio reality so that we do not do it again. Then we need to remember all those wonderful things that we have done in the will of God in our previous existences, so that we can pull from the strength and the wisdom of that, and that is why we are having the opening of the memory circuits.

Van also had disciplined character. We did a study on the self-mastery of Jesus and Jesus’ teaching on self-mastery, and that is what a disciplined character is. Part of being spiritual was about not being controlled by our emotions, for so many times our emotions are totally dependent on our electrochemical make-up or our own selfish desires or our own will, so we must begin to be disciplined and rise above those lower emotions and continue on in what we know to be right. That is what a true spiritual leader would do, and of course the most important thing is the unquestioning dedication of our personalities to be doing the will of our Father in heaven.

I had mentioned before that the greatest leader on this planet was Jesus, who is Michael of Nebadon. One of the greatest traits of a true spiritual leader is to be able to live a life that can be an inspiration for each person who sees that life, for that life is lived in such beautiful balance and symmetry. That is the greatest gift that Christ Michael gave to all of us on Urantia, as well as all personalities in the universe of Nebadon, for in those 36 years that He lived, He lived a life of perfection—the life of perfection that an evolutionary mortal in a material body can live on an imperfect and broken world.

We as leaders, if we are going to become true spiritual leaders at whatever level, we too must be able to show it by our lives. True spirituality is not the words that we speak, but it is how we live our lives. If you read Part IV of The URANTIA Book, you can see how Jesus lived His life from the time that He was a little child. Certain situations, very similar to the situations that we come upon, came His way, and as you read about how He responded to them and the decisions that He made as His life unfolds before you, you will truly be inspired.

Section 7 (on pages 1101 to 1103 in The URANTIA Book) is called, “The Acme of Religious Living.” It is in Part IV of The URANTIA Book. It talks about several virtues of Jesus, and that section does expand upon them, but again it was how this leader lived His life. He had unfailing kindness. He had stalwart strength of character, true sincerity, refreshing genuineness, loyalty to all truth, living and teaching that truth.

He never seemed to be in a hurry and had time to comfort His fellow humans. The URANTIA Book states that Jesus was never in a hurry. Most of us are running around like chickens with our heads cut off, and so we joke about, “How could Jesus do that? How was He able to live this life and not be in a hurry?” Gabriel came up with the idea that it is because He knew He was in the perfect will of God, so He could flow in that will. He didn’t have an agenda.

Just Jesus’ smile could increase the recipient’s capacity for solving his or her manifold problems, just that smile. In Continuing Fifth Epochal Revelation we have learned about what is called the fusecha stare that is in true spiritual leaders who move into a higher revelation. When you get to that point of true spirituality, you can look with that fusecha stare upon someone and smile upon them and give them many blessings, and that person will be inspired to do much better in their lives. Jesus did this, and this is the destiny of every single one of you in this room

I love the way The URANTIA Book describes Jesus as a “love-saturated soul;” wherever He went, this love-saturated soul dispensed health. He scattered happiness, and He did this naturally and gracefully throughout his entire life, from early childhood on. Jesus loved people so much and so wisely that He never hesitated to be severe with them when the occasion demanded such discipline.

We have had experience with our spirit celestial and unseen friends here, and we know of their love, how much they love us, and in our community transmissions, we especially become so aware of that. A lot of things are covered in those transmissions; there are lots of words of encouragement; there are words of humor, and we laugh. Then there are words of admonition, and we do know that we are loved, for they have the discernment to see what we need to hear and where we need to change, as Jesus always did. It is a wise love, and that is the important thing; a true spiritual leader will love those others wisely and will never hesitate to tell someone what they really need to hear whether they want to hear it or not. It might make them feel uncomfortable and might make them angry at first, so it does take courage, and it takes discernment; it takes wise love.

Great things happened to individuals who interacted with Jesus and were receptive to Him and what He had to offer, not only because the people who were the ones who received what He had to offer had so much faith in Him, but because He had so much faith in people; and we must too, if we are going to become true spiritual leaders. We must have faith in each other and in all the people who we bring this revelation to, for this is an imperfect world, and everyone walking upon it is imperfect. Everyone is damaged and hurt as a result of the Lucifer rebellion, so we must have faith in those people who truly are sincere in wanting to grow and be healed in spite of their frailties, in spite of their mistakes. We must have faith in the spirit of God in each one of those people, just as Jesus did.

Earlier I named many, many people through the million years of the history of the human habitation of our planet, who in some way were outstanding leaders and had an impact on the evolution of this world, and I mentioned that they all had courage. These traits and these virtues we have looked at that were pointed out in Van the Steadfast and Jesus of Nazareth are traits we all need to begin to develop in ourselves, so that we can move into our destinies as true spiritual leaders.

As Gabriel has pointed out many times, there are very few true spiritual leaders out in the world right now, and the world is crying out for them. We do this not only for the good of this planet, but for the good of all in the system of Satania, for this indeed is the adjudication of Lucifer. The Bright and Morning Star is in charge of this adjudication, and each one of us here is part of it. Each of us as individuals are being adjudicated, and as we move through that, and move through our own healing and growth process and move into these traits that Van and Jesus and true spiritual leaders of the past have had, then we can serve not only this planet, but many of the other planets in the system of Satania, for all of those planets who share the history of Urantia of falling and rebelling in the Lucifer rebellion are also being adjudicated. Many of us here in this room are being called to go and serve on those planets after we bring in the implementation of the Divine Administration on this one, and so we must become as Van the Steadfast, as Amadon the loyal Urantian, and as Joshua ben Joseph.

The greatest spiritual movements were started by true spiritual leaders, at whatever level they were able to make a difference, and, of course, the greatest of all the spiritual leaders was Jesus Christ who is the Creator Son of this universe. He was crucified for His message. All throughout history many true spiritual leaders have been ridiculed, ignored, persecuted, put in prison, or assassinated. There are many decoys out there in the world who call themselves spiritual leaders, and there are a lot of people with true hearts and true intent who are pure of mind and purpose. Those who are true in purpose, mind, and heart will come up against great opposition, and that is one of the reasons why there are very few true leaders today.

You can’t tell videos by their covers, and in relation to the leaders today and the way they market themselves, you can’t tell a true leader by his or her cover either. They really can market themselves well and fool millions. Why is it that people will follow false prophets? I think a lot of that is that people just aren’t educated well enough; that is number one. Then the whole understanding of true spirituality is really very limited on this planet. People on the Internet are calling Pulp Fiction a spiritual movie because it has a little message of redemption. People who are looking for just a little bit of message in a movie can justify the rest of the nonsense of the movie to a level of absurdity. It is pretty sad when people can actually call Pulp Fiction spiritual, because there is nothing else they can compare it with.

I saw Chariots of Fire, a wonderful movie, but you don’t see too many of that kind of movie. I was very surprised that it did get the Best Picture of the Year award, which goes to show you that if a movie can be promoted properly, people will go see it. When I saw it for the third or fourth time, standing in line in Tucson, Arizona, this grumpy guy was behind me; (his wife took him; she was the spiritual one), and this grumpy guy was saying, “We gonna see this stupid movie? I mean, you really wanna see this stupid movie?” I could hear them talking because they were right behind me. “Let’s go see this one up the street.” He was trying to talk her out of it, and she was saying, “Oh, there’s some wonderful messages in there about God.” He used a couple of swear words, and it wasn’t very nice to hear. Number one, she shouldn’t have been with him, and she probably isn’t today if she is really following God in the highest way, but at the time I thought, “Gee, what a sad situation here.”

It is like that in so many relationships. I knew a couple in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the wife was very spiritual and wanted to really grow in God; and she would try to bring home movies, magazines, and periodicals that brought in God and higher consciousness. She read the Bible, anything that was spiritual, and I would see the husband throw the things out, literally throw them out the back door into the rubbish can. Sometimes he would miss the garbage can, and they would be on the ground, and I would collect them and give them to her. One day he caught me, and we had a little confrontation, but that kind of thing goes on.

So, what are true spiritual leaders? We have to be able to recognize who they are at various levels. Today we have the media images, the film stars who portray these heroes, but that is not really what they are in real life. They have their personas in the media and in film, but that is not really who they are, and even in writing books, the authors don’t tell you who they really are. I don’t want to use this person’s name, but he really disappointed me when I found out about his life. He has written some best sellers, and he has some really good things to say about evil and overcoming evil in relationship with God, but then he starts an organization that accepts just about anybody with any kind of beliefs. You don’t have to deal with evil there, and through his organization he contradicts the truths that he writes about.

Many rock artists write beautiful songs but can’t live up to the words. There are many actors who played heroes and became heroes in the eyes of the masses, and yet these same heroes live unhappy lives, some even committing suicide.

Governments—what are governments today? They are corporations. They are run like businesses. They have an executive staff, and they have ways of doing business. On this world we are living in, that Jesus said not to be of, everything is about money.

What are the true qualifications of leadership? The true qualifications are that the spiritual person first of all needs to be in God’s will, which today in politics brings up a lot of problems in relation to government because quite a few people claim to know God. What most don’t realize is that there are starseed on this planet, those who are older souls, some of us having hundreds and hundreds of years of experience living on this world, as well as on other worlds. Then there are new souls who only live to be maybe fifty, sixty, or seventy years old in one life. Then there are second-time Urantians who, maybe at the most, have lived a hundred years or a little over a hundred years, but some of us on the planet have lived a thousand years, maybe more than that because of our many lives. We don’t really know because the celestial spirits haven’t given us those specifics yet; so I can only estimate. We do know that if you lived a thousand years, or you only live a hundred and ten or a hundred and fifty years, whoever lives a thousand years has to be a little bit wiser than the soul who lives a hundred years, and a soul who lives two thousand years has to be a little bit wiser than the soul who lives a thousand years. There are some extremes where a soul may be old but wicked (dio) and sometimes a younger soul who is a thousand years old may be wiser than the soul who is older in chronological years in the astral past life realm, because the soul who has a greater connection with God is the higher soul. So how are those determinations made?

On this planet it is very difficult for those determinations to be made, because people follow false leaders, wealth, power, force, and military might; and the very sheer existence level of their jobs, having to support their families and keeping a roof over their head, make it nearly impossible to not follow those leaders. In many cultures, the companies and the corporate executives become the leaders. Many people depend upon the company to support them, to give them medical benefits, and to help them in their retirement; all they know is the company. They begin to depend upon the company, and never really learn to depend upon God. One thing that I can honestly say is that everything around me that you see here, including you beloved people and all the physical things, everything, I never got from working longer than maybe three months at a time for a company. Maybe I was in God’s permissive will for three months that I had to punch a clock in the last twenty years; for eleven years I was able to help feed and house hundreds of people in Tucson, Arizona and other places of the country. I’ve been able to put clothes on people’s backs, to help them pay their rents, to do all kinds of things. How does that all happen? That happens because God is with me, and God is with me because I’m with God.

The consciousness is such that anyone running for office has to play politics to win, and whenever you start playing politics, then you put God second, and someone else comes first, someone who you owe. “You give me ten million dollars, man, I’ve got to do something for you.” That is called Mafia mentality. The Chinese Mafia, Italian Mafia; it doesn’t matter, Japanese Mafia, American Mafia; it doesn’t matter. It’s all the same. It’s that mentality of “I did for you; what are you going to do for me?” Whenever you start taking gifts from someone who thinks they want something back from you, don’t take it. That is why I have run my ministry in this life (and I probably learned it back in the thirteenth century) a little differently than most ministers would run their ministry. The principle is that when you give to God, God will give back to you. God will give back to you, and nothing that you give in this ministry should be to me. It should be given to the Father.

Our Lord Jesus chose poverty; He chose to have nothing when He was in His public ministry. Before that He worked hard from the very early age of fourteen years on to thirty, basically for His mother and brothers and sisters until it was time for Him to go into the ministry. Then He tried to teach His apostles, of which I am one, a new way of manifesting reality into our lives, but at times we still thought we had to go fishing, you know, to eat.

It is hard to understand all that when we grow up living with the idea that success is money in the bank, when we grow up thinking that we have to have a lot of money for our happiness and survival. When men think that is the mark of a man, then we are never going to find ourselves as ascending sons and daughters of God. It is not about being a man. It is about being an ascending son or an ascending daughter, and those spiritual qualities and understandings that God the Father and God the Mother would have us understand that aren’t being taught on the planet to the degree necessary so that we can really manifest those things in our life. There is so much hypocrisy in the world. Jesus went into the temple courtyard and threw all the commercial stuff out. That is what made Him the angriest, when the religious leaders were trying to make money on God. Yes, it is nice to have some things about God around you; yes, it is okay to have things, and that is not idolatry. But when those things become your God, then it is idolatry. God is the judge of that, not me, but there is a difference. Understanding the difference sometimes can take thousands of years.

Jesus said to be a servant of all. He said that if you want to be a leader, be a servant of all, and so He washed the feet of His disciples. When He met John the Baptist, He said, kneeling before him, “Baptize me.” John said, “You should be baptizing me,” and Jesus said, “No, no, you baptize me.” Jesus knelt down. One day at a community transmission, the Bright and Morning Star came in and walked over to a man and bowed down before him and kissed his feet.

It is easy to write the words. It is easy to write the gospels. It is hard to live them. Boy, I tell you, I’ve written songs twenty years ago that I haven’t lived up to until now. It is easy to write the words, you know. It is easy to write about love. It is easy to write about what you should do. Paul said, “The good that I would, I do not. The good that I write about, I do not, but the very evil that I don’t want to do, I do.” And it is true; he never lived up to his words, even up to today. It is hard to overcome those tendencies that control us in our thinking.

When Machiventa Melchizedek came in and spoke through me he said, “The difference between the third and fourth dimension is that the fourth dimension has true spiritual authority in divine administration; the third dimension doesn’t.” True authority, true spiritual authority, is the reason why a lot of people don’t even think about this community when they realize that there is a spiritual structure here and an authority structure. They run the other way. That is enough for them; they’re gone. In a way I understand that. In a way, I don’t blame them because there has been so much abuse of authority on this planet that people are afraid of it, and some of the maxims that people quote are, “All I need is God.” “I have the inner God, and I don’t need anyone else to guide me.” Yes, you do have the spirit of God within you, but you also need other people to help you in your spiritual growth.

There is always somebody on every planet who is your spiritual elder and advisor, and you need to find them wherever you are. If you outgrow that one then you need to find another one and another one and another one; I have said over and again, if someone comes here to this community who says, “Hi, I’m your elder,” and I know it, they can have it. They can have it; I will be their student. Until that time comes, I’m it, and I’m open.

I’ll do anything God wants me to do, and I have proven it in my life. I’ll go to Chicago. I’ll go to New York, Harlem, and I went to Pittsburgh. I went back to Pittsburgh for a year, after I was in the ministry for several years, and God took me to a lot of different places that I didn‘t want to go. I remember when I went through Dallas the first time. I drove around a little bit and got the feel of the vibes and the energy there. I said, “I’ll never come back here!” and I left. I should never have said that, and I meant it when I said it. God did not let me go until I went back to Dallas and joined a ministry there, at that time called “Youth With A Mission,” and basically I had to learn a lesson. I tell people, watch what you say to God. Be careful what you say. Be very careful.

The fourth dimension comes with authority. First of all, true authority is humility. Now, what is humility? “God, give me the gift of humility.” It is not a gift. Don’t pray for it. It is not a gift. Ultimately, everything is a gift. Ultimately, life is a gift. Of course, the very fact that we are beings of eternity is a gift. That is the gift, but like with everything else, you have to work on it. Work on it? Well, wasn’t it Lucifer who tried to say in the rebellion of Satania that, “Oh, you don’t have to work on your ascension. God loves you just like you are. You don’t have to get any better. You don’t have to deal with the evil (error) in you. You don’t have to have any leader over you.” He said all kinds of things that basically tell you that you don’t have to change. Well, eternity is about change. If you are the same person that you were yesterday, you are not changing. That is the trouble when you go back to your old neighborhood and nobody has changed. They are not growing, and they think you are the same as you were. They try to relate to you the way they related to you twenty years ago, and it just doesn’t work, particularly when they haven’t even come into a relationship with God at all. To whatever level they have done so, that is the level that you can relate with them, because God is the conversation.

God is in every aspect of our lives. I can’t go for a minute of the day without communion with God. Can you? Well, yes, some of you can; you put him aside because you have your own agendas, and that is the problem, but here in this community, it is less and less and less with the majority of you. That is why we are at the First Planetary Sacred Home.

In the fourth dimension there is true spirituality. I am going to read from a paper that was given on February 6, 1992 by Paladin, Chief of the Finaliters. It is called, “What is Spirituality?” I’m going to read it just like it is, and I’m going to try not to interrupt myself until it is over. Remember this is a finaliter speaking. It is not me.

What Is True Spirituality?

First of all, we will tell you what it isn’t. It isn’t a dress code. No form of dress makes a person holy, or wise, or indeed spiritual—not robes, not collars, not turbans. It is not the way a person walks. It is not their height or their weight. It is not in their ability to speak, nor their intellectual acquirements. No degree given to man or woman can make them spiritual. No university on this planet can proclaim in their schools of theology that a person is now spiritual. No fasting over a period of time or sacrifice can make a person spiritual. Neither can the diet of certain foods or vegetarianism as opposed to meat eating make a person spiritual. No substance found in the earth and ingested can make a person spiritual. No modern chemical injected can produce a spiritual personality. No amount of wealth, fame, or prestige can bring spirituality to a person. No appointment of position by man to man in any capacity can make a person spiritual. No self-sacrifice, no matter how great, alone can make a person spiritual—not the giving of a son or daughter or their rightful husband or wife to God, nor the giving of one’s income, nor the continued public announcement to others that you are God’s chosen. No amount of adulation of man for man can make another spiritual.

True spirituality or virtue is a process that begins based upon certain universe laws and procedures. True spirituality cannot be defined so simply. For example, even those who appear to present the fruits of the spirit may not be so spiritual at all. The virtues said to bring about the fruits of the spirit can be disguised at various levels of deception in the third dimension. It is not so simple, and many factors have to be taken into consideration. Virtue for an ascending son or daughter is an acquired thing. It is learned over a period of time and that time may be hundreds, thousands, and, indeed, millions of years. It does not come upon you as the Baptists and Pentecostals say, in a moment of time upon the reception of the Spirit of Truth, making you perfect. It is an eternal process. When you reach finality you can begin to say that you are spiritual. Throughout the grand universe the degree to which you are truly spiritual is the degree of your own individual blessedness. Blessedness is the beginning of individual happiness, but blessedness is higher than happiness, for one can be happy in sin.

For too long on Urantia Lucifer has tried to replace spirituality with other things, thereby decreasing happiness for so many millions at whatever level they could acquire happiness. Whatever level your spirituality is, it creates the reality in which you find yourself and what you have and what you have not. It separates that which you desire from that which you will get. As your spirituality increases, your desires that are based upon the desires of God will become manifest.

The Spirit of Truth is the beginning of higher spirituality on Urantia, and the hearing of it—moment to moment above all else—is the activation of that spirituality which leads to your individual happiness and fulfillment. Spirituality is a golden box and within it can be found treasures—treasures that cannot be bought by ascending sons and daughters, for this golden box is owned by the Supreme Deity, and its gifts are bestowed based upon each individual’s willingness to seek his or her God in whatever way one can, based upon that search and knocking on the door of the heart of God, and then the golden box begins to be filled.

As you become honest, the gift of honesty is given. As you become patient, the gift of patience is given. As you become giving, the gift of things are given to you. As you seek wisdom over pride, wisdom is given, and the golden box begins to shine with the light of God, and we shall call this box the heart circuit. Wisdom, which increases one’s spirituality, cannot be purchased. Even when written, words of wisdom may not be understood, for wisdom is given in and through the Holy Spirit to those who put others first above their own selves, for it is written that love should not seek its own welfare but the welfare of others.

Motives in harmony with divine ordinance increase spirituality and bring the body into higher morontia realities and above. Individuals, who are trapped in third-dimensional patterns in regard to religious thinking and even livelihood, cannot even begin to reach the higher motives, for the higher motives deal with others outside of one’s own nuclear family, where most of the people of Urantia are presently obligated. Even worse than that, millions do not even have concern for their own families, but only concern for themselves as individuals. The more people whom you can place into the sphere of your responsibility, the higher your spirituality.

This is a divine thing, and it is divinely understood at different levels, and at whatever level you can now begin to grasp it, it is given to your planet. Certain spiritual leaders of the past have understood this, but it is available for all to understand, and when the mass consciousness of a planet can realize that we are each others’ keeper, the suffering of that planet will end. Words can be written and taught but little understood.

For thousands of years, philosophers have philosophized upon very high spiritual statements written by prophets and wise men of God, but few manifest the power of those words within their own realities for the benefit of the planet as a whole. At certain periods on Urantia at the time of certain renaissances, many ovan souls who had once come to the realization of selfless service to humankind were again brought to this planet and repersonalized as contemporaries, sometimes together and sometimes in different countries. It has been necessary on Urantia for these ovan souls to come back, for they have been the only voices to cry out against the established way of Caligastia.

What is spirituality? Many may think it is rebellion; and indeed it is. It is rebellion against Caligastia; it is rebellion against Luciferic reality; it is rebellion against evil, sin, and iniquity. Jesus was a rebel who came against the established norm. Today on Urantia the Spirit of Truth is even more so a rebel. Today the societies of the planet are much worse than they were even in Jesus’ time. Then, the people suffered in slavery and poverty. Today the people are also blinded because of materialism and foolish self-pursuit.

Spirituality is faith—the faith to be humble, the faith to give of one’s talents and abilities to the true spiritual teachers and elders on this planet when they can be found and recognized.

Spirituality is gentle when it has to be and forceful when it has to be. It is Father/Mother. It is not just Mother nor can it be just Father, and when the son or daughter is in balance with both, spirituality can be perfected, for the fusion of childish youth then is incorporated with maturated age, and a liveliness of spirit presents itself instead of rigidity and inflexibility.

Spirituality enjoys a good laugh, and some of the most highly spiritual personalities of time and space are great comedians. But the comedy is pure and is based upon cosmic fact of the relationships of the evolutionary process which is most humorous on the higher levels.

Spirituality is discipline. Discipline and perfection are wonderful as long as within this perfection one does not become so stagnant that one cannot change when necessary.

Spirituality to those who recognize it commands authority, and we bow to those of higher spirituality because of that spirituality in relation to the God of all. Spirituality and authority cannot be escaped, neither can spirituality and responsibility. Many refuse to become spiritual because they realize, even at a lower level, that they cannot escape responsibility for themselves or for others.

Spirituality begins in knowing one’s place with God at any particular moment in an individual’s existence. The saints of the past may be spiritual, but as they ascended to the higher mansion worlds and above, their spirituality increased, as it does with ovan souls who return to this planet and others, and who do not default in their reasons for being on Urantia or on their missions if they are Cosmic Reservists. Spirituality is strong character, and strong character is the fusion of the Universal Father, the Eternal Son, and the Infinite Spirit in mortal likeness.

On some planets there are beings whom you would consider quite obese, but in comparison to any spiritual Urantian mortals at this time they would be like one with a Ph.D. compared to a kindergarten child in terms of their spirituality. It is because spirituality is a nontangible thing. You cannot touch spirituality, nor can you always judge it by appearance, and when you do you have erred greatly.

On some planets, those who are highly spiritual may be in a body form that would be so different from yours that they would actually frighten you. But those of us who have ascended high enough to sense the essence of God within them, once again, bow to their spirituality at whatever level they have attained it.

Spirituality cannot be technically acquired or scientifically produced. It can be scientifically analyzed in accordance with higher understanding and ascension science analysis, but it cannot be programmed, for only God can create a perfect being and the Creator Sons are the only ones given this power.

There is a difference between courage and foolishness. True courage demands some form of spiritual attainment. The more courageous one becomes in true spiritual alignment, the more one will accomplish for the benefit of all on a particular planet.

Spirituality is colorful and creates in the astral realms the purest perceptions of divine colors that can resonate around any one particular individual personality. These colors in turn manifest healing to that individual and to those who are blessed to be near them. On Urantia, the highest spiritual personalities most often become drained of energy, for so many others unknowingly draw from their life force. True spirituality is fragrant with odors that higher celestial personalities can distinguish. This is why, sometimes around high spiritual personalities, flower essences are recognized even by humans. These things, such as color and smell, are a science in themselves, and we are just beginning to touch on the subject.

The higher the spiritual personality, the more in control of one’s self in all respects one needs to become. It is increasingly easier to take into account many wrongs suffered without justifying oneself, for one begins to realize that justification is not necessary and it is only pride that wishes to make itself correct. It is one thing to correct a person’s wrong thinking. It is another thing to do it when it is either out of pride or not necessary. The line is so thin that it may take thousands and thousands of years to come to the place of accuracy. Higher spirituality is knowing the difference. Spirituality is knowledge fused with wisdom and applied with experiential reality in the evolutionary worlds and above. It is applied existential and experiential reality in relation to God and to others of God’s creation.

Higher spiritual personalities are social creatures. They are not isolationists. Solitude, although not only a temporal reality, can become a damaging thing when the spiritual personality begins to self-contemplate to the point of misaligning with higher authority or one’s peers at any level. Social communication with colleagues within the same realm of spiritual ascension is medicine for the ovan soul.

It is within the union of souls that higher spirituality can be manifested and actualized by ascending beings. Higher spirituality in the company of one’s elders knows when to voice an opinion and when not to, and higher spiritual teachers know when to ask of those individuals their opinions and when not to.

Higher spiritual personalities are ever so absolute. There is no question once they have presented their opinion based upon absolute reality as they know it. If question arises, it is in the misinterpretation of what the lower individual heard them say, and this is so throughout the ascension process. Truth is often misinterpreted, for it is heard at the level of one’s own spirituality and no more. The problem always arises, how does a higher ovan soul or being communicate with a lower one? Thus, spirituality is the ability to descend to a lower level and make one’s self understood at that level of communication. For if you are not understood at any level, you have no value as a teacher of cosmic reality. You may do well in the solitude of the libraries of time and space, but in practical application to the rest of creation you could become a worthless individualist, and at the point where this begins to happen, the personality begins to default.

Always in these cases, lack of patience is found in these individuals, and so it is increasingly important that the art of communication to lower-circle individuals be learned and acquired, and it begins in the personality when one begins to look at one’s own impatience and inflexibility. These tendencies are common to mortals of time and space void of the higher reception of the Holy Spirit, particularly in stronger Father-circuited personalities. In my own ascension to Paradise as a finaliter, it was one of my faults hardest to overcome. It is not in the text of this transmission to give the solutions to the preceding statement; I can only state the possible problem.

A person with higher spirituality is not envious or jealous of those who have acquired what he has not, either materially or nonmaterially. Envy and jealousy are two of the most difficult things to recognize in one’s self. It can take thousands of years within the growth of an ovan soul before the degrees of envy and jealousy of an individual can be recognized. These faults of character are, again, lengthy in concept to describe.

These unfortunate traits were found in Lucifer, and we have found that it is ever so difficult to open the eyes of those who have followed in his footsteps and acquired these unfortunate traits. Justification of one’s own jealousy and envy is quite a thing to measure on our side. There are volumes written on these subjects in the higher schools on the satellite worlds, so it is not a subject you just touch on.

One thing that we have found where envy and jealousy continue to exist in personalities is a decrease in their clairvoyant perceptions and of course the reception from their own Thought Adjuster, depending upon the spiritual acquiescence and other attributes of those individuals that determine the many things pertinent to their present reality and certain mandates given them. Mandates can be given to individuals who have traces of envy and jealousy, as mandates can be given to those with other bad habits.

It is true, God is the judge of these things; and it should be left to the Creator Son and personalities of Paradise origin to decide these things and contemplate upon them. We at lower levels can discuss these things and contemplate as to why mandates are given to the imperfect, but it is much easier for us to do so, for our memory circuits are more open at higher levels, and we remember our imperfect selves more clearly.

It is written that ascending mortals at times often think too highly of themselves. Spirituality and humility are siblings. They balance each other out and indeed are from the same parents. Humility cannot be known unless some form of spirituality exists, but spirituality can exist at a lower level where no humility at all exists. Spirituality comes first; humility follows, and grows, and grows, and grows. Throughout eternity humility is a learning process which increases one’s spirituality.

Spirituality is visionary. It is not crippled by fear. It is prophetic and finds its purpose in the recognition of the divine purposes of others as well as of oneself. The more one can recognize the function of others in the divine plan and can recognize another’s individual placement in the timetable of the divine clock, the higher the spirituality within the personality.

Spirituality is adventurous. It begins to take risks because of its increased faith, not only on the defaulted worlds of time and space, but in relation to other unknowns of time and space higher spirituality begins to build. It first learns to plant the seeds; then it learns to find the correct soils and what seeds to plant for the various beings of time and space. It learns the particular foods that need to be digested in body, mind, and spirit.

Spirituality does not always feel good to the individual, who learns to do what feels good to God and learns to recognize that one’s own feelings may interfere with the perfect will of God. A person learns to separate one’s likes and dislikes for the higher good of all. Higher spirituality is not based upon always catering to your feelings. It discerns the will of God upon the combination of mind and heart fused with the mandated purposes of God as given first through the Thought Adjuster, Spirit of Truth, and Holy Spirit within, and agreed upon then by Celestial Overcontrol at various levels, and on evolutionary worlds, by mortal eldership.

Higher spirituality learns not only to listen to the inner self but to the inner selves of others who are their spiritual elders—human or celestial personalities—who are all together hearing the same divine mind. Higher spirituality understands the difference between rest and slothfulness and can discern the same in others and can make use of idle time for the purposes of God wherever it may find itself. Moment to moment, it is always useful to God, even in periods of rest and relaxation it is in divine will.

Higher spirituality does not overwork itself to the point of indifference to family, social, or union-of-soul responsibility. Whatever it does, its purpose is within the divine will, and it has learned to accept each moment as a gift of divine origin and looks upon the moment as a continuing learning experience.

The previous comments on spirituality are just a beginning of the comments that could be made and are not complete by any standard of time and space. They are presented here to clarify some misconceptions on Urantia of who and what is spiritual. But before you can begin to understand any of this at the level necessary, I suggest that you turn your life over completely to God and request the Holy Spirit to make itself known within you, and this begins by accepting Christ Michael, your Universe Father, who became Jesus and left behind His Spirit of Truth for your education.

I just want to close with this. I wrote a song about the mid-zone, called “Edge City.” That mid-zone is a very dangerous place to be. As a matter of fact, the apostle John wrote in the Book of Revelation that if you are lukewarm in these days we are living in now, you will be spit out of the mouth of God. Strong words. We who give this message to the world, we ask you, as the Bright and Morning Star said in a transmission the last time he fused with me, “Please get down on your hands and your knees and ask the Spirit of Truth to reveal to you the truth, and then once you recognize it, follow it.” Many of you belong right here at the First Planetary Sacred Home within the Divine Administration, trying to establish a new divine order on this planet.
